The Mini Curriculum Vitae:
"I grew up behind the scenes of
the fashion world, watching, as my mother made stunning haute couture garments
for some of the UK's most prominent designers in the 80's and 90's. I remember being at my first ever fashion show, spending most of the time examining the complementary gift I found on my seat, courtesy of Clinique! At that time I was still too young to understand where I was and how it would become such a big part of my life, but I will always remember it.
My passion
for textiles and fashion developed from a very young age and many days were
spent stitching and making odd little things, until finally, I was tall enough
to sit at a sewing machine!
From that day, I have spent my life
sewing and learning to develop that passion.
There was nothing that made me more proud
than seeing my mothers work and creations being worn by public figures and
appearing in magazines, and I was grateful to have seen how it was all put
together. I knew then that I wanted to follow suit in my own little way.
My main source of knowledge was acquired
from observing and learning from my mother, and armed with this, I went on to
University to study Applied Arts, specialising in stitched textiles. I then
went on to study pattern cutting and womenswear at The London College of
Fashion and continued to expand my technical skills further at Central St Martin’s.
In between, I have worked for various
designers, fashion boutiques, fabric and haberdashery companies, all of which
gave me valuable experience and knowledge. In March 2009, I had the opportunity
to put this into practice, when I designed and made a collection for a fashion
show at the BT-UNICEF Charity Ball. A gallery of some of the outfits from that
evening can be viewed here.
Collectively, my experiences and
desire have brought me to where I am today. I now focus on corsetry, and
exploring the idea of re-inventing the concept of this iconic and timeless
design, creating new ideas and accessories to work with the corset and enhance
it further, giving the wearer more scope and inspiration to take the essence of
wearing one to a new level."
